Mahashivratri is one of the great auspicious festivals of the Hindu religion in the country of India. this festival celebrated each of the year and in the year of 2012 it will be celebrate as on the date 20 February 2012 the day of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month of Hindu calendar in northern region of India. There is another story behind the festival. Once upon a time there was a king Chitrabhanu who worship lord Shiva without knowing about the acts donning by him in his previous birth. He got good results from those worshipping and services of lord Shiva on the day of Mahashivratri. He took a fast on the day.

Vishwakarma Puja 2011 or Bishwakarma Pooja or Vishwakarmaji Jayanti is mainly observed in eastern parts of India – West Bengal, Jharkhand, Orissa and Tripura. Vishvakarma (creator of architecture) is the Hindu presiding deity of all craftsmen and architects. He is the “Principal Universal Architect”, the architect who fabricated and designed the divine architecture of the Universe , the Lord of Creation.

Legend behind Vishwakarma : According to Hindu scriptures Vishwakarma designed the triloka, the tripartite universe consisting of the Heavenly realm and worlds, the Mortal realm and worlds and the Netherworldly realm and worlds. Vishwakarma is also credited for creating the missiles used in the mythological era, including the Vajra the sacred weapon of Lord Indra from the ribs of the sage Dadhichi. He is regarded as the supreme power according to Rig Veda, the very essence of excellence and quality in creation. In the state of Bengal it is celebrated much before Dushhera which falls roughly in or around in the month of September.

Vishwakarma Puja 2011 : Vishwakarma is known as the divine engineer of the world. As a mark of reverence he is not only worshipped by the engineering and architectural community but also by all professionals. It is customary for craftsmen to worship their tools in His name. As a mark of Vishwakarma festival Vishwakarmaji is worshipped by Artisans, craftsmen, Weavers, mechanics, smiths, welders, industrial workers, factory workers and workers on this day for success in their respective fields. On VishwakarmaPooja it is customary to place special statues, pictures of Lord Vishwakarma in every workplaces and factories.

Pancha Ganapati Puja, Panchamukha Ganesh Festival

Pancha Ganapati or Pancha Ganesh vrat is a five-day Ganapati Puja observed in December month. Pancha Ganesh vrat begins on December 21 and ends on December 25. Panchamukha Ganapati, the five-faced Ganesha is worshipped during this modern festival. A special puja or sadhana is performed on each day of Pancha Ganapati. The puja procedure or vrata vidhanam of Pancha Ganapati is very similar to all other Ganesh pujas like Ganesh Chaturthi and Sankashti Chaturthi.

Panchamukha Ganapati

Devotees clean their houses during the puja and draw rangoli in front of their houses inviting Lord Ganesh into their homes. Puja place is sanctified with Gangajal or normal water and rangoli are drawn. A small mandap is built in the middle. A picture or idol of Ganesh is placed on the mandap and offered Shodashopachar or Panchopachar puja. Special naivedyam is offered on each day. On Each day of Pancha Ganapati, a colour of items.. flowers, sweets, fruits etc.. are used for Ganesh puja. Ganesh is also adorned in that particular color.

In 2012, Pancha Ganapathi Puja has great significance. The last day of this vrata is also celebrated as Hanuman Vratham in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The third day of the vrata is Mukkoti Ekadasi (Vaikunta Ekadasi / Mokshada Ekadasi).

In 2012, as per Telugu, Marathi, Kannada, Gujarati & all other North Indian Hindi calednars, Pancha Ganapathi Puja begins on Shukla Paksha Navami in Margashirsha Month and ends on Shukla Trayodasi.

December 21 – yellow colour, December 22 – blue colour, December 23 – red colour, December 24 – green and December 25 – orange colour is used in Pancha Ganapati puja procedure.

Purmandal Mela and Festival in Jammu and Kashmir

Purmandal Temples are dedicated to Shiva and the annual mela and festival is held during Phalgun Krishna Paksha Trayodasi and Chaturdasi and coincides with the Shivratri. Purmandal Temple Mela 2012 date is February 20 and February 21. Also known as Choti Kashi, there are numerous temples dedicated to Shiva in this region including the famous ones at nearby Utterbani.

The area is famous for numerous temples dedicated to Shiva, the popular of them being Ranbireshwar Temple, Panjbhaktar Temple and Peer Khoh.

Purmandal Mela celebrates the wedding of Shiva and Parvati. The fair attracts thousands of Shiva devotees.
